Mahogany L. Browne

Mahogany performed for Seriously Entertaining at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater on February 7, 2023, speaking on the theme “Never Say Never.” She also performed at a SpeakTogether student matinee at Edward R. Murrow High School in Midwood, Brooklyn, in September 2019, speaking on the theme, “The Road Not Taken,” and a SpeakTogether virtual student matinee on February 5, 2021, speaking on the day’s theme, “The Root of It All.”

Mahogany L. Browne is a Brooklyn-based writer, educator, activist, mentor, and curator. Her sophomore young adult novel, Chlorine Sky, was published in January 2021. Mahogany is the Executive Director of JustMedia, a media literacy initiative designed to support the groundwork of criminal justice leaders and community members. Earlier this summer, she was named Lincoln Center’s first Poet-In-Residence. She is also the executive director of Bowery Poetry Club, artistic director of Urban Word NYC, and poetry coordinator at St. Francis College. Browne has received fellowships from Agnes Gund, Air Serenbe, Cave Canem, Poets House, Mellon Research, and Rauschenberg. She is the author of recent works: Woke: A Young Poets Call to Justice, Woke Baby, Black Girl Magic, and Vinyl Moon.
