House of SpeakEasy America 250 Bookmobile Tour

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, House of SpeakEasy’s Bookmobile will embark on a 27-day tour of 28 cities in America’s original 13 colonies, distributing 6,000 free books.

The Bookmobile will depart on June 9 from the Public Theatre in Manhattan. Prior to its departure, House of SpeakEasy will host a launch event featuring a literary cabaret with poet Terrance Hayes, playwright Heidi Schreck, scholar James Basker, and poet Chyana Marie Sage, co-hosted by journalist John Avlon and Library of America President Max Rudin.

Per an announcement, the custom-built, 27-foot box truck will carry the collected writings of the Founding Fathers, anthologies of American essays and poetry, and contemporary fiction and nonfiction from partners including Library of America, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Penguin Random House, and Scholastic.
