Her newest picture book, Little Rebels, draws on Mexican folklore and her own community’s environmental advocacy to show what children can achieve when they come together to protect one another and the place they call home. Morales is the author-illustrator of nine children’s books and has illustrated nine others, including Bright Star, Viva Frida, and Ladder to the Moon. She is a seven-time Pura Belpré Medalist and the recipient of a Caldecott Honor, as well as the Américas Award, Golden Kite Award, Christopher Award, Jane Addams Award, and Tomás Rivera Award.
