Student Work

From a SpeakTogether virtual workshop, University Heights High School, The Bronx, Fall 2020

This poem was composed during a six-week workshop conducted by poet Jubi Arriola-Headley, who introduced a class of 9th-grade students to myriad forms of poetry that exist. This workshop took place virtually during a global pandemic. Read more about the works in this collection, which demonstrates students’ efforts to find their voices and share them with their peers, teachers, and families.

Anime aren’t just!

by Michael

Anime aren’t just TV shows
Or regular cartoons
Anime is place where fear, anger
And sadness fades away
Anime is a source that fills you
With happiness and joy
Anime is place where Otaku joins
Up, And have its place for fun
And entertainment,
Anime is place for people to laugh and
Cry, Anime is place to never give up
Anime is very cool art with 2d
Characters that have an epic story,
Anime aren’t just TV shows and regular
Cartoons, They are fun and beautiful.
They’re made out of love from their,
Enjoyment, Anime is cool.
